Many of our members actively participate in the Alabama Water Watch Volunteer Citizen water quality monitoring program. These citizen monitors sample and analyze several water parameters and send the results to the Alabama Water Watch office housed at Auburn University's Fisheries Department. The results are verified and then stored in a database and graphed. There are at least two groups monitoring water quality on Smith Lake, the Smith Lake Environmental Preservation Committee, based on the Cullman county side, and the Smith Lake Civic Association based in Walker county. The sampling locations, sampling results, charts and graphs for both groups can be viewed at www.alabamawaterwatch.org.htm.
