There are no fish consumption advisory warnings for Smith Lake.

Smith Lake is famous for its large population of the large saltwater or hybrid stripe. There
are many fishing guides around the lake specializing in tours to catch the large 'strippers'.
As of July 2000, the largest certified weight stripe bass was caught from Dale Welch's guide
boat in May 1996 and weighed in at 45 pounds.

SLOT LIMIT:
Smith Lake has a slot limit on all black bass. This slot limit has been changed from
13-16 inches to 13-15 inches. This means that any bass caught that is between
13 and 15 inches must be released back into the lake. Other limits are stated on
your fishing license and in the Alabama regulations.

Fishing licenses may be purchased online at www.conservation.alabama.gov.

Alabama Power’s Fish Habitat Enhancement map showing the Christmas tree habitats created
through the Christmas tree recycling program can now be obtained via the internet
with updated GPS information. These maps can be accessed at www.southernco.com/hydro.
Simply go to Lakes and Recreation and from the drop-down menu select the dam for the
lake you want and the topic “Fishing”. The link to the GPS coordinates will be in
the text to the right of the drop-down menus.
