July 23, 2005: Smith Lake Environmental Preservation Committee meeting with Lesia Van Gundy, Air-Evac Membership Coordinator, as our guest speaker. Air Evac Lifeteam is a group of highly trained pilots, paramedics and nurses that are on 24 hour standby to respond to critical medical emergencies and they have provided air ambulance care to rural communities since 1985. She will be discussing the benefits of having this service available around the lake, how to obtain the service, and she will also answer any questions. In addition, Mack Thomas, Alabama Power’s Reservoir Manager for Smith Lake, will give us an update on the permitting guidelines and new permit fees for Smith Lake. As of July 1, 2005, Alabama Power will be charging $250 for Residential Shoreline Permits for various shoreline activities so come on out and see how these changes affect you. As always, this meeting is open to everyone so please make plans to attend this informative meeting and bring a friend, your dock builder, or your neighbors. Your membership certificates will be ready for you to pick up. We will also have free fish rulers provided by Alabama Power, SLEPC jar openers, and septic tank dye strips so you can test your own septic tank for problems. We are looking very forward to having everyone so don’t miss it!
